Thank you for a great forum.

I am a wysiwyg user with no formal training and have built a site for a friend simply because I believe this is a worthwhile cause. I've used FrontPage 2002 for this project.

One major annoyance is that the page does not scroll in response to keyboard commands (Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, and arrows).

I'm sure there are many bugs, but I've done all I can with this and have run out of ideas.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you might have time to offer. I have thick skin and will not be offended by any comments you have.

Regards

Re: Critique please?

Firstly, as you have no formal training, and you have used front page for this, good job.

However i will judge this as i would any other site on here. You really should take a look at using CSS for layout and get rid of frames.

I would also reduce the site of the home page, only include vital information that catches the users eye.

With the code you are using it is not very good for SEO purposes, i would get rid of the frames you have.

Hope this helps

Craig

Re: Critique please?

Thank you so very much for taking the time to look at it and give me some feedback. I know absolutely nothing about css, but I'll certainly do some research and try to learn it.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the frames are not good for SEO purposes?

It will be a couple of days before I can start working on this project again.

TY!

Re: Critique please?

http://www.webforumz.com/css-forum/, here is a great place to start to learn CSS, it's not that hard once you start, and much easier to maintain

I am not 100% on this, but search engines look through your code, and on your homepage there is not that much to look through, (someone else will give a much better answer than that )

What is the reason you are using frames btw, is it your choice or frontpage's?

Craig

Re: Critique please?

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

I'll be honest with you - I didn't even realize I was using frames per se. Though I am purposefully using embedded pages (only because it's easier for me in the long run). Is that the same thing as frames? I didn't think so - but see how little I know?

Thanks again!

Re: Critique please?

Why is using embedded pages easier in the long run, surely it would be easier to have you code upfront?

Re: Critique please?

It all depends how you taught yourself - but UC is right: xhtml & css all the way. You have a design, your next mission, should you choose to accept it is to convert it to valid xhtml & css.

This post will self destruct along with the end of the internet

Re: Critique please?

I don't know. I guess I probably just developed a shortcut somewhere along the way and then formed a bad habit over the years. I've been using FP a long time. I don't even remember when or where I got the idea that I could move things around on the page easier if I created in one page and then inserted it where I wanted it on another page. I just moved the donations area up on that page a few days ago. At any rate, now I need to follow your advice and learn something new. I won't have time to get to it for a few days, unfortunately.

Oh - in the mean time, did either of you happen to see what I've done that is causing the page to fail to scroll in response to keyboard commands?

Thanks so much for all the help.
