Hi. My name is Phil Baber, I am a fundamental Christian and also a juggler... as you can read on my website ( http://philbaber.fortunecity.com/ ). This is not a commercial thing, just a website to promote what my beliefs and what I do. I made this site in Dreamweaver, simply using layers. What I really want to know is, is this an acceptable way of making a website? I have a feeling that it is a somehwhat crude way.

Any feedbacksuggestions would be appreciated.

thanks, Phil Baber

It's acceptable, in the sense that I'll permit you to do it despite my burning evangelical desire to enlighten you about the One True Path of hand-coding and web standards.

There are pros and cons to working with a visual design mechanism. The main pro is that it's easy to get started with little knowledge; the main cons are that it creates bad code, and it limits the efficiency of your work-flow. For what you're doing, it's probably sensible to stick with the visual design, simply because it's easier. If you want to make professional-quality websites, however, then you'd better learn some HTML and CSS.

What's not acceptable is your use of spinning cruciforms and font colours that are as varied as your juggling balls. This is a Mortal Sin, punishable by 3,000 years of purgatory working as a web designer in the early 1990's (Dante's first draft of the Purgatorio describes this in detail, but he later edited it out).

Yours is an interesting story: salvation through juggling. It's a good thing you didn't take up the Diablo instead.

I'm not sure I like this site. It's a completely unorganized design! And what the hell is that crap next to the juggling balls?

Holy crap.... You're a christian to a certain extent then yeah? lol

Sorry mate but it looks bad. Randomly placed pictures, coloured text and nasty animated gifs. It's like the myspace page from hell... except I've never seen a myspace page this bad.

I can't comment much on the content without insulting it as I have a particular distaste for religious fundamentalist rantings.

At the end of the day, you don't have a site. If you insist on spreading information about yourself and your religion, which I am absolutely certain you do, The best thing you could do is get something like wordpress installed and just let that do all your coding. It is a sound, valid base to work with and just allows you to concentrate on your content.

Other than that, look at all the resources that people have posted on here and learn (X)HTML and CSS.
