Re: poetry australia
The font is hard to read on some images on the landing page.
You should also ditch tables, choose a nice font and get some decant quality images for your header - the current ones are very pixelated. I reckon that you should also keep the same design right the way through your website or at least the same layout, if not the same colours also. You should also ditch the animated graphics - they dont look professional at all.

Re: poetry australia
Oh dear. I'm sorry to say this is pretty bad.
Don't use an entry page. Get straight to your home page. The splendid poem on your entry page is made nigh unreadable by the text colour and photo backgrounds. Dump all the blinking, flashing graphics. They look tacky, and they're annoying. Animated elements should be used with caution in web design. Ugly animated elements should never be used. Your code is terrible. HTML 3.2? I haven't seen that for 5-10 years! Web coding has moved on a lot since the 90's; learn CSS and HTML 4.01 Strict.

Re: poetry australia
Good idea for a website! However, the text in the intro page is very hard to read because of its colour. Choose something that contrasts more with the photos that are in the background - even black would be better. I found the flashy animation at the top of the homepage very annoying and distracting. I think it would be much more effective if you had a short animation as soon as a person opened up the page to catch their attention, then stop it and let the visiter do what you want him/her to do ... read the content. The main content would be easier to read if you changed the font to maybe a sans-serif font, and reduced the number of different fonts and colours you are using for your titles.

Re: poetry australia
Ok i get straight to the point.
Fonts - Keep to one font. Use for paragraphs one font size. For headings use one font size but ditch the background colours. I would use Arial for paragraphs font size 10 and for Headings font 16-18. Animated giffs- Your title has some clip art animated giffs, get rid of these use the image on the holding page with the Austrailian flag and put this top left width 250 pixels X 80 pixels max. This will give you a logo. Keep the same layout i.e the background and the positioning of the navigations bars on every page otherwise the user get confused. You should also look at changing the tables and use a css style sheet to control the layout. |

Re: poetry australia
If a client requests something as hidious and bastardised as this, it is your moral duty as a designer, regardless of skill, to tell them (politely) they have no idea what they are talking about and they should let you do the job they hired you to do.
This is what happens when (pardon the expression) a client has a dog yet barks himself. This case, however, is only the clients fault to a certain extent. It should be coded well in modern current coding standards. The client will have no understanding or control over how you code a site so even if it is disgusting to behold, the code should, at least be sound.
