Ok here is a style for my Online shop its a lot like my myspace blog.

Good Luck.

I'll take all forms of critique.

I'll also take suggestions, and offers of help.

You can look forward for more products and CSS improvements towards the weekend.

This will show you what MyBlog looks like, they are similar in design. But the shop will be a bit more exciting.

Re: EGT Online Shop

It is a really basic design, and could be easily re-created with CSS and divs, instead of tables. The website doesnt look like a shop, nor a companies' website. I sugggest you remove the inline CSS and put it into an external .css file.

The blue links are really hard to read on the black/grey background.

Overall:
3/10 (code isnt very good, design (what design?), inline CSS).

Re: EGT Online Shop

I don't have any blue links they are white and hover on black.

The inline is because it graps the css before it renders the page, the server tech that is used.

Their are no Items yet, CafePress has reported problems on their end of product creation. So I'm stuck waiting a day before I can see the honest - to - god results.

Hit Cart & Checkout, it may show you some shopish stuff.

Do you have any suggestions about specific content to include?

The companies website is else where this is only a part of it.

Re: EGT Online Shop

Ok For an example of what the website will look like with stuff, I'd used a similar design for my blog, because it was simple. But I'm for all sorts of suggesting.

Re: EGT Online Shop

It loads incredibly slow, cut down the size of the images, check here.
Also it doesn't validate (25 errors!) and I suggest you start again in xhtml and CSS with a strict doctype!
Good Luck!

Re: EGT Online Shop

The width is too long! Make sure it's suitable for all screen sizes from 800x600 above. I'm on 1280x1024 and I still had to scroll to the right a bit to see the full site / navigation.

Re: EGT Online Shop

I guess thats a problem on developing with a giant pixel display (1400*1050.) Lol

I already lowered the size of one of the images to 42k, about 7sec on a mobile.

Unfortunately, I am trying my hardest to work under the conditions set under cafepress.com, sorry. If this disappoints many of you. CafePress, has yet to allow developers and quality designers to do detailed edits. I'm a constrained because of all this.

However, I'm working around the clock to do the best I can fro max. performance and cross browser compatibility. Its really nerve aching. I'm just glad that 4egtv site (can't release yet, lol) isn't so constrained, problem is this site is so deeply constrained because of the unique conditions. Its like trying to make a myspace compatible and validate. It just won't happen.

The 25 errors happen because no doc type is set, I'll give it one soon. But cafepress.com doesn't validate, they have yet to choose whether to validate or not.

My CSS is inside the header if you look carefully.

THANK YOU, all for helping me, I'm still needing you help and desin ideas. So please keep the good advice coming.

Re: EGT Online Shop

I don't get it.. there really isn't anything to critique. So far all the suggestions people have made are not changed.

Maybe let us know when the site is finished. I think you were a little anxious in getting this one critiqued.

Re: EGT Online Shop

well all your suggestions are being made and changed as we speak, like the image loading and the links ( I have decided to make the upper links a blue that goes to black on hover ), your docktype is being implemented on the major base but not the minor base.

In essence I am using a docttype just not saying it in the first line-o-code.

It's a DOCTYPE, and it needs to be in the first line of code.

Re: EGT Online Shop

the biggest problem is, that I can't access the first line of code, I can only edit the css style and all other aspects but the doctype.

you should probably go into a cafepress shop and try it your self, mabe their is a way I just can't figure it out yet. Unless some-sorta magic happens, I just can't get to it.

Re: EGT Online Shop

I have a question, according to multiple people my links are to light, what color should I use in place of the blue gradient thing, (the link area.) Because I like the idea of having a white/black links.

I was excited, I added a product and I loved the style turn out.

Re: EGT Online Shop

Three things:

As others have noted that big image in the center takes a really long while to load. Once it does load all I get is 2 small lines of text, I need to refresh the page to see the image. Maybe try reducing the file size via photoshop?

The text on the left nav, as other have noted is a little difficult to read. If you like they grey try a lighter shade of it. Otherwise a brighter color would be better though I can't decide what would look best.

Lastly, the blue text at the top right about the shopping cart is also hard to read on the left transitioning to an easier to read as the background changes to light blue. Try extending that light blue so you can read all of the text there without focusing on it to do so.

Nice site

Re: EGT Online Shop

Ok, not to marginalise anyone here, but I''m disregarding previous comments - easier to deal with:

All I get is a nasty muddy repeating background image that makes the black text too difficult to read. The less said about the black top/side the better - they could work, just not with the current layout - it must make you think that you can do better. Change this then we can talk again

Re: EGT Online Shop

Ok, i thought i had reduced the size of the centered image, I will reduce it more.

Also I have began reconstruction of the shop Image I'll make it look better and act as a real image should.
Right now its just a div background, I was over zealous when I made that.

Re: EGT Online Shop

My main problem with the design is that it seems like you've seen features in other sites that you've liked and wanted to incorporate them into your site but you've not stopped to think about how well they work together.... and they don't work well at all.

If you ask me, the diagonal pinstripe ship has sailed. Every site in the world seems to use it and it's not at all original anymore.

Re: EGT Online Shop

the reason i use it, is because it makes someone think that the background isn't plain. I don't have any non plain background ideas. I'm up for suggestions.

Re: EGT Online Shop

Much of the text on your website is hard to read, because you've used silly and ugly colour combinations. You must ensure text contrasts well with the background.

The colours are also rather nauseous. Blue, black, and white are fine together (but remember text contrast!), and orange is okay as an accent colour. But you've also added a nasty lime green, which doesn't fit the other colours at all.

You've also used too many shades of colour, by virtue of using gradients with all your colours. Using too many gradients can spoil a colour scheme!

To be honest, the whole thing just looks really tacky.

My advice would be to stop trying so hard. Simplify your design. Use fewer colours. Remove those clichéd pinstripes, and the mock-3D bevels on the picture. Make it plain. It will look much classier.

If you stop trying to design an impressive or visually arresting website, you might succeed in making one that is not ugly.

Re: EGT Online Shop

As you all can probably notice the "web image" on this page doesn't show all the recent color changes. It looks very basic, except for the logo. You all should probably take a closer look.
