Home Sports Products
Here is a website I have been working on. I used XHTML and CSS to code it. Any comments of the general appearance would be appreciated.

Re: Home Sports Products
First things first, your site does not validate.
Gone back to the 90's look it seems, very basic and boring to be frank! You have ugly white backgrounds, your images are all different sizes like they have just been thrown in. You want to do something more like this: http://www.kitbag.com/stores/kitbag_4_5/default.aspx All I can say, is I'm glad your not using tables and frames! Sorry to be so harsh! If you want some inspiration on designing, look at the amazing sites on cssmania. Good Luck!! EDIT Lots of CSS Errors too.

Re: Home Sports Products
I have to be the first to admit that I'm not very creative in my designs. I'm just starting out and trying to figure things out.
I just validated the site and it should all check out fine now. |

Thanks for all your input. It's always good to get a fresh opinion. I'll see what I can do about the images and maybe rethink the design.

Re: Home Sports Products
Nice and easy to navigate - easy on the eye.
A little plain but at least the imagery is consistant in size and quality. Could use a bit of colour but not bad for someone just starting out

Re: Home Sports Products
Just starting out? Not bad at all! I think most beginners would be grinning ear to ear with this design!
It's very balanced and you used very safe/sport colors. I like the navigation a lot and I also like the simplicity of the site. It is allowing the products to take center stage. As Marc said you are going to have to work on putting in more text. Search engines are all about text. Not too much to take away from the user friendliness of this site but you need to tell the search engines with text what there is in the site. They can't read images so be sure to add in keyword phrases "in the content of the text". You do have alt tags which is good but you will need more. Plus if I were shopping, I'd want more descriptive write ups on all products. Some of your products have dimensions others do not. That's probably where I would put your focus now. For instance the football field table: is that glass or plexiglass? Aluminum or steel based? Choice of colors? Are you going to implement a shopping cart such as paypal? It would improve sales tremendously if you did that. Hope this helps! |
