I've started this site to get businesses and workers in the area to visit and potentially sign up. We are a commercial real estate company. With the metro plans in place for the area, businesses may want to think about moving temporarily due to construction.

I know unbranded marketing is effective. Do you think the current setup will work?

Please tell me what you think.

Re: Tysons Business Center

The page looks really nice: soft, muted colours with subtle blending.

You have a real problem with image size, however. Your plans page, for example, is over 1 Mb in size! Much better to use thumbnails with reduced image sizes, which link to the full images.

On your homepage, you have a 390k image that has been scaled down to fit the page, making it look ugly. Again, it's better to get the image dimensions correct, rather than use HTML to change the size. Make sure the image dimensions match the "width" and "height" attributes on the <img> element.

You should also compress your images. You should probably be using JPG instead of PNG here (JPG compresses better, although you lose some quality). PNG is a great format, but it's not suitable here because you need compression.

Re: Tysons Business Center

You may want to tell them your purpose
It looks like an information site - telling them that the traffic will have problems
Why would someone sign up - they need a reason
The information may want to be reorganized - too much wording to get attention
Try using bullets for important information
Make paragraphs short - stressing important information
Pictures - use only the amount of resolution required for the largest display to prevent it from loosing sharpness (there is a size recommendation on pictures)
Is there a way to load site first, then load pictures (I think its some kind of bundling of the information into groups) to speed up loading
hope this helps

Re: Tysons Business Center

well we'd like people to use it as a source for discussions. the area is traffic ridden and only going to get worse. we want to find businesses that are interested in moving, temp or permanently. employers can see employees' opinions.

i personally would rather have the "discussion" tab as the main page but my boss wants the objective there for everyone to see.

Re: Tysons Business Center

what does everyone think about the front page? i'm thinking that the "discussion" page should be the front page and everything on the current landing page should be under "about us" or another page.
