Re: Hand Knit Wraps

I really like it! Bold but elegant. I was initially confused as to why there were palm trees in the background for a site about wraps and ponchos, but then realised when I read the content that they are being marketed very much as something to take when traveling.

I assume the site isn't finished yet and prices etc are still to be added. Also, there are a couple of validation errors, but they are very easy to fix, so again I assumed that this was because the site wasn't yet finished.

Can I ask why a transitional doctype rather than strict?

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Thanks, we are going for both a travel and tropical theme. Fixed the validation errors. I'm not sure why it's transitional and not strict, I guess I've just always done it that way. What's your take on it?

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Transitional, as I see it, is really meant to be an in-between stage for bigger sites that are switching over and can't do it all in one go, I don't personally think there's any good reason for using transitional on a new site. A strict doctype also forces browsers to use their most standards compliant mode, so you should be less likely to get unpredictable results across different browsers. This is my understanding anyway, others I'm sure could explain better or expand further.

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

That's nice. I like the transparency of the body content.

I think it would be nice to have a large photo of one of the best wraps on the homepage. I want to see it right away... I don't want to wait to see it!!

I think a photo of Madame La Yarn would be nice too! (cute name)

Even better, maybe a photo of Madame La Yarn wearing one of the wraps!

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Thanks for your comments. I made a few changes. Now the site works perfectly in IE6 (without a certain hack, the PNG images show up with gray backgrounds instead of transparencies). I added a large image of one of the best wraps (in my opinion).

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Touche.... you killed it! That's exactly what it needed on the homepage!
Image 9 is another one that would awesome on the homepage because it has the "blue stripe" of your background color!
Oh so nice!!!

Did you know that you can't see the "next" button on your lightbox? Usually up in the right hand corner there is a graphic that says Next. Since I know where it is, I clicked there and I was taken to the next photo. However I think you need to locate the "next" button since it seems to have run away!

The first time I used Lightbox I had the same problem. Then the client chose not to use LB. This week I installed it for another and the "next" button was thankfully there.

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Are you planning on having any contact info other than just the form?
Can people request a special shawl? Does she plan to offer pricing on the site? Not that I'm planning on buying one ...cough .... cough... but
you know... it would be nice to know what part of the country she is in and how much she charges!!!

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

You just want to buy one , yeah I am going to be putting up other contact info and she does do them by request. I'm not sure if she wants to list the pricing on the web site. If you really end up buying one, say that you helped me with the site and she might give you a deal ?

Re: Hand Knit Wraps

Quite a nice website! I liked the transparency of the body content as well and I also liked the bright colors you use for your website! They make your website very attractive and create a summer atmosphere. )
