I'm in progress of developing website about London and Paris.
It should be like a travel guide for people first time visiting one of these cities.
Travel guide, but without selling something behind, just pure tourist informations.

Here is the link: http://www.visit-londoncity.com (Paris is still on stand by, but this is the url http://www.visitparis-france.com )

Comments would be appreciated.
Cheers!

*london site* - The homepage seems flooded with google adverts. I counted 13 just on your homepage. It seems a bit over the top and very off putting.

*Edit* I have just checked more of your site, it is over run with google adverts. Personally, as soon as I see google ads in large amounts, I leave a website because sends out the message "I just want your money".

Re: Visit London City

If I move off of the homepage none of the navigations work.
OOps.

I would give all your photos on all the pages (the ones that are examples of the places you can visit) a little margin-right and margin-bottom so the text is not touching them.

It's too bad you did this site in tables. For one you won't get as good a result in Search Engines. Secondly updating this site is going to be a huge job. You should have all your css externally linked. To change a link color or something random, you are going to have to search EVERY page rather than change one bit of code.
Nightmare!

Overall it is full of good info. If I were visiting, I'd like your personal take on how to travel.

Re: Visit London City

Ok, i get it! Well, adsense was actually my friends idea, but it seems it's not so cleaver as he sounded

Agree about text touching pictures - it's something I was thinking about as well, but this should be a confirm.

LCHAD... understand about updating, but why do you think website with tables or static pages are less ranked on search engines?
Re: update... well, only few of pages will be updated from time to time and plan is for them to be dynamic - PHP, other content is pretty much static as it is because London Tower will be in future exactly where it stands now
So... only news and events will be something on that website that will be dynamic.

Thanks for posts people, it helping me a lot ! Cheers!

Re: Visit London City

When you are using tables and inline css or even deprecated code like <font> you now have bloated code. Search engines must sift through bloated code to find the good stuff.

When you hand code a site you are using specific tags for specific reasons, showing the search engine what it wants.

Re: Visit London City

Hm, honestly I'm not sure that you are 100% right.
Ok, I've seen your Maine website and now I know what you are talking about, you are giving to SE almost pure content - am I right? <div>...

London is not only website I developed, loads of them are with tables and css, but still SE reads it very good, actually have very good PR.

Re: Visit London City

Right, all I have in my code is html. All my styling is in an external style sheet. So it's bare bones.

PR has nothing to do with coding actually. Page Rank is in relation to backlinks from other peoples sites. If you have backlinks you get a PR. If you have quality back links you get a higher PR.

Sure sites with tables get decent listing in the SE's. If your site has been up a long time, you will get priority over other sites. Overtime the other sites if they are done in html/css will move over you. I'm not saying the change is drastic. You won't go from position 100,000 to 5 however if you are battling it out for position 1 or 2 versus 4 you the difference "could be" the coding.

Tomin.. you have to have 10 posts to add a signature so you are close!
Also our links have a no follow="rel" added so it will not help you with your PR.

To have the no follow removed, you can become a Super Member. Then it will assist you with backlinks!

For more "table-for-layout-trashing" check out the Resources for learning how to use CSS for layoutthread in the HTML, CSS and Beginners' Resources forum. Lost of info and some example layouts to get you started.

Re: Visit London City

I'm impressed design wise. Simple, plenty of white space, small amount of flash, easy to spot and use navigation. Keep up the good work.

Re: Visit London City

Long thread, I haven't read what anyone said past the 2nd post so forgive me if I re-iterate anything. In my short and sweet opinion:

- It's not that you have too many ads, they're just getting in the way of good content. Try using the small links units instead of big boxes here and there.

- It's common practice to make the website title/logo link to your homepage.

- SEO is poor:
  • No headings or semantics.
  • Duplicate frontpage (/ and /index.html).
  • Inline CSS.
  • Bloated head section:
Code: Select all
 <meta content="7 days" name="revisit-after"/>
<meta content="Travel, City Guide, London, England" name="classification"/>
<meta content="Travel, General, Child Safe" name="rating"/>
<meta content="en" name="language"/>
<meta content="info@visit-londoncity.com" name="contact"/>
<meta content="Visit-LondonCity.com" name="author"/>
<meta content="info@visit-londoncity.com" http-equiv="reply-to"/>
