I know I submit a lot of sites on here, but I just love the constructive feedback you get so here we go.

My site www.cullinanweb.co.uk looks ok, but BORING (agree / disagree??) so I wanted something a little more ' edgey' and modern and 'designery'(a word?).

Any pointers on design would be great.

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

I actually like your co.uk site better. The only thing I would change is remove some of the green. It's very green.

As for this one ... The CWS doesn't really match the rest of the site with it handwritten script font.

The sticky note kind of ruins the design for me ... it doesn't flow at all with the rest of the design.

That dotted background is about to give me a brain tumor!

Otherwise ... I love the handwritten script font and the stuff "under" that sticky note.

Keep working at it.

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

Ok here were go.

took the savage background away and locked in in the back cupboard never to be seen again.

have tied the CWS text in to the recent projects text, as I want to keep that logo style.

Sticky note also gone replaced with top navigation (image at the mo not working yet)

any more comments?

thanks so far karrine

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

Hi Dan!
I'll have a go at it!
To start with the CWS site has a pink and white header with green trim, burgundy script font, a peach page background, red hover over on the nav and a black edgy design. So.... that's problem #1, Pick two colors, and work with those and then a third color as an accent. (black text font is not included so technically you get 4 colors to work with ) Honestly it doesn't matter what colors you choose as long as you remain consistant. Off the top of my head I would say the pink and burgundy would be a great starting point. Outline the CWS letters in black to go with the swirls. Possibly a grey for the page background since there is gray in the swirls. Can you add the swirl graphic to the page background just repeating on x and in 50% transparency? (or another shade between pink and burgundy)

Problem #2 in my humbled opinion is the script font. I adore that font and I "need to know" what it is. But it's not edgey. I'd save it for a different project. If you're stuck on it, like I sometimes am, then I'd use it in the nav as well.

Keep us posted on your changes... I want to see what you do!!!

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

Thanks for the comments Lchad the font is Freebooter script, edited to make look more 'grungy'.

Have taken in to consideration your comments please view site again and let me know what you think.

The CWS i want to stay that color because of ties to my old design (www.cullinanweb.co.uk) I want this to be my logo now instead of *, lol.

Keep them coming with your help i may have a WOTM entry for March!

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

The grunge look is really happening now! It's getting more edgy! woohooooo

Can I make another suggestion.... know it's just that and if you don't like it trash it. But I don't think it's a tough change to see... Could you try making the diagonal lined header in burgundy/white or burgundy pink instead of what looks like pink/white. (I realize it's more complex than that)
I think the background is so powerful that the header is getting lost! So either strengthen the header or tone down the page background a bit. If you have a way to transparent it by 25% just so it's not the complete focus but a design "element". Know what I mean? I love what you did with the page background! It's totally cool!

It's coming but at this point the header just isn't quite right....
You are working so hard that it might be a good candidate for March!

Let me know when there's more to see! This is fun!
Linda

Lchad, made some small changes as to what you said above. I am nearly ready to start building my content in (and making the nav bar lol)

I like it! I love the burgundy around the CWS (that is way better) and I think the faded background is better too! I think it's ready for content!!!

Re: Cullinan Web Services (CWS) site

Started putting some content in now. The home page is pretty much done 'cept for maybe rewriting some of the copy, web design page - same, portfolio page is started and the featured projects on each page are database driven and randomly rotate on refresh. Have upped the size of the h1 replacemnt images, as they were a little lost and hard to read.

Any more comments...?
