WOTM Needs You!
It's been noticed that WOTM has been less exciting each month and voting numbers have dwindled substantially. 26 Voters last month is not enough for us and we are fully aware of it.
As Acting WOTM Advisor, it's my job to try and give this competition a brand new makeover, a fresh, exciting and different look to try and get people voting and entering. We need you, The WebForumz community, to share any ideas you might have about how I can achieve this. Please post them here, or if you rather please PM me. If you do PM me, please place 'WOTM Ideas' in the title. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing your ideas! Jack Franklin Acting WOTM Advisor. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A NOMINATIONS THREAD. We are looking for your ideas to improve WOTM. Nominations in due course.

Re: WOTM Needs You!
i disagree, personally i would regard winning WOTM as an honor and would love to have that badge displayed on my site.
Also, to say that friends are voting for friends is also not true, this would mean that one single site is getting LOTS of votes, and recently all of them together have not been getting lots of votes at all at the moment, never mind a single one. As for making it more exciting, could we do something like best designed, best coded, best overall etc? This would help the graphic designers compete against the coders and vice versa? Craig

Re: WOTM Needs You!
I think we should have an overall best design sort of thing for the best overall site, but when we are making sites, we keep the design and the development seperate don't we, seems a sensible thing to do for the competition.

Re: WOTM Needs You!
we should have categories like best design, best user interface (maybe wrong word. You know what I mean), best content, and overall best site.
just throwing it out there

Re: WOTM Needs You!
Could maybe have awards for different categories, eg Portfolios, e-commerce, Brochure etc etc

Re: WOTM Needs You!
Different categories might be an idea, as voting would be difficult if the the site is not your choice. There should also be criteria for the voting i.e. design, layout ease of use download appearance etc..
Can we re-enter our nominations with new thoughts? |

Re: WOTM Needs You!
i think we are all on the same page, the staff team have lots to do at the moment, they are working very hard behind the scenes, but this is a great possibility for a near future project ...
anyone got any other suggestion that does not involve splitting WSOM into categories ?

Re: WOTM Needs You!
Is there anything we can offer the winners, links on our homepage to their site for a month etc.
This would not inconvenience us that much having a link at the bottom of our site, but with the amount of traffic we get it would be a great backlink for them for a month, getting more people to enter.

Re: WOTM Needs You!
I think the reward should be improved. An easy way to do this would be exposure on the front page of webforumz.com. That way people have more of an incentive to enter.
To get people to vote I would recommend having a poll which can be seen easier ie. in the sidebar on front page or something. That way it will be more obvious to people. If I come up with some other ideas I will post them. I agree that the number of voters isn't enough. If its only around 20-30 voters I have noticed it more likely for older members of the forums to win. Due to people being bias because they know the person more. I may be wrong on that, but its my opinion. A couple other things which could be offered is: an improved WOTM graph and also a WOTM vote for me graphic. Some people will post the graphic on their website to encourage voters and may also write a post about it giving exposure to the competition. That will however play into the hands of the websites which have higher traffic. Which may not be a bad thing. Last edited by mikka23; Mar 14th, 2008 at 18:29. |

Re: WOTM Needs You!
I agree with you mikka with the sidebar things!
That way people that visiting this forum will notice that we are having a website competition without having to go to the announcement page

Re: WOTM Needs You!
hey. one thing i have noticed is this. i have a site which i've wanted to put into this comp. back last year. the nomination period keeps changing or is locked or something. so i have failed at this a couple of times. you guys need to open the next month. as soon as the last month has finished. so that they overlap. currently so you have to be on this forum at a particular date to enter. make it so ther is nomination and voting at hte same time. you will get more votes and websites this way.
also have a winners badge comp. see who can design the best badge. flash maybe? maybe a bit of gooey UI for votin gthat would be grand. just a few ideas into the pot.

Re: WOTM Needs You!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I love the idea of splitting the sites categorically, but last month I had 10 nominations, which was good. However, that would leave maybe only 2-3 per category, and ideally you want more. I know the nomination time spread and voting spread is different, and from now on it will be the same each month, starting with the May Award. For now, I would like to point out that the April Nominations are open! Many thanks, if you wish to discuss any thing, feel free to PM myself. Jack
