podcast preloading

Hi,

I'm wanting to find out how my web designer can make podcasts preload on my website for 5-6 seconds before they start playing, to avoid interruption later on. I'm not so savvy with web design - I know he uses dreamweaver and writes in ASP (?) any answers would be really appreciated.

I heard that media 'streaming' can be 'done' using flash - is that right? could anyone send me a flash file that can be easily used to play audo files on my website? my address is chinese_knight@hotmail.com

Thank you so much

Re: podcast preloading

What type of audio or video is this? Your website designer should be able to set a 10 second buffer time, within the ASP code. Just one extra line...lol

Or he could import the audio into flash. From there you could, have the video buffer as well. But I need to know file type in order to give you my suggestion, also I would need a sample page, or a URL.

Re: podcast preloading

Hi,
thanks a lot for your generous help. He seems to think it's harder than just some extra code, but maybe he's not aware of this technique. Your idea of using a flash player sounded good and I looked at a free player from Pixel Out - you know this one? But I don't know how to 'embed' it in the website - www.anytime-english.com/Podcast. If you look at the podcasts on www.englishpod.com, they preload really fast and never stall - at least on my internet connection.
These mp3s on the website are 44,100 hz and stream at 128 bits or whatever the technical terminology is, if that is relevant. Should I make it 22,050?

Thanks again for your help : )

I don't see what your problem is? They work...why move it to flash?
