Flash should come with a fee helmet
.. for people like me! Okay, I really need some help here: I've created a symbol (alpha set to zero so I could use it as an invisible button), but for some reason when I try to do a mouseover event (get URL) it changes the symbol globally, which means all the instances of that symbol have the same link!
If I click on the symbol and choose the mouse event and input the link url, it 'appears' as if the url is correct, but if I double click that symbol to edit in place is shows the 'global' url... and in publish preview that's the url it takes you on clicking. WHAT the heck am I doing wrong here, or is it that I just have to make new symbols for each of these buttons??? Seriously, I need a helmet before I get brain damage. Okay, just kidding. But please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks! |

If you edit inside a specific symbol, then that edit will affect all instances of that symbol.
However, when it comes to a link URL, you should be able to set that outside of each symbol, by right-clicking, selecting actions and using: on (release) { getURL("page.html"); } |

That's what I was doing, but it still changes the symbol globally. Then I tried to edit the symbol in place and the URL that shows on the actions panel is the 'global' url, even though selecting the symbol in the main area shows a different url. Ugh! lol

Are you sure that you aren't using the button while it is within something else, but using the something else more than once? If, for example, you had the button in a movieclip, then where you have that movieclip, the button's actions will be the same.

Well, the easiest way I can describe this is that I created a symbol, a black square, then set it to apha of 0, then dragged the symbol to the stage whenever I needed it, but always on a new layer. These buttons are all on separate layers.
Make any sense? |

That sounds fine... I'm puzzled once again. Maybe upload the file for me to have a look?

Thanks Sirkent. We're getting ready to go out for the evening, so I'll upload that file to a page where you can download it.... probably can do that tomorrow.
