Playing movie once when visiting page
WHY I'm having so much trouble finding answers in the tutorials within the program is beyond me. So here I am again.
Okay, since the open in new window thing messes with popup blockers... I'm foregoing that idea. But now that creates another problem: When people go BACK to the main page with the movie on it... the movie starts over. That's annoying too. lol Now how would I fix this? How annoying to have to wait for the darn movie to play again when all you want to do is go back to the page with the links. I'm still practicing... and here's an example of what I mean: http://www.thecorridors.com/lost_souls_midway.html Coming BACK to this page restarts the movie. Also, this is the movie I wanted to add mouseover sounds to... just short, brief, soft sounds. I did a search in Flash because I KNOW I saw a tutorial once that was about setting the movie so it doesn't play over every single time you go back to the page. Or.. was it my imagination? lol |

There is no easy way to do this.
The only way I can think of, uses Actionscript to set a 'Flash cookie' to remember that you already visited and act on it, if it exists, to skip the intro of your movie. Unfortunately this is quite a high level of Actionscript and will probably make no sense at all... http://www.webforumz.com/?ContentID=6&CategoryID=4 I can completly understand you screaming and running away from your computer after seeing that, so if it's a bit OTT, upload your FLA and let me add the code. It doesn't take long. |

Well, it did leave me brain a-tinglin', but I don't smell burning rubber so I think I'm okay. LOL
The idea of this programming sort of intrigues me, though.. I have to admit. So does code require any additional coding changes, or is it left as is? Is there a way in Flash to manually insert that? I probably can't do it myself, but I'm still curious as to 'how' it's done. BUT, once this code is in place... they would literally have to delete their cookies in order to see it play again, right? Or is there something in the actionscript that can determine when a cookie expires? Or... am I just in fantasyland at this point? Seriously... this stuff intrigues me. Probably not something one can learn on their own, I assume? Classes needed?? |

Like I said, the code is all in the article I linked to. But Flash cookies are different... You set something and it lasts forever, unless you program otherwise.
