HTML inside of flash.....

Ok, I have had many many requests for me to put HTML files inside of flash. How would I go about doing this? Supposedly this is so the person can update text and images as often as they like. Please let me know how this is done. I appreciate it. Thanks.

HTML files in flash? You can't. Why would people want to update text and images through flash??

I dont know... but i have had many many requests. Ok, well only 3 but thats a lot for me. I have been looking and found only one answer which is PHP.. but that isn't the same thing. Guess i'll just refer them to Craiglist like other wild offers. .

Two were brochure's for different cities and one was for a restuaraunt.. One of the brochures wanted to be able to change the pictures frequently, and the other one wanted to change its page's text and pictures. The restuaraunt wants to be able to change the price ASAP.

You mean, your clients want to be able to change their flash layouts dynamically, or do you mean, your clients would like to change their HTML layouts dynamically using flash?
The first is possible, but you don't use HTML for it... Why would you?
You design your editing pages in Flash and use a server-side script to save the details, preferably to a database. But of course, your site has to be database driven to start with and, don't get me wrong Court Jester, but I don't think you've made that leap yet?

Yes, HTML is a structural static markup language not at all a serverside language! You can do that possibly with a single text file, though. I can point you to some links if you need them...

Nope.. I mean that they have asked me to make a flash website. But want All of the text and pictures to be an HTML document where they can just upload their new pictures and their new .htm/.html page and it change on the flash movie. Basically Flash would have to load a HTML document inside and show it as a layer. No server side Scripting is needed for this.

You can't do that.

Flash can render some HTML elements in its text fields, such as Bold, underline, italics and text sizes along with
and

tags, but Flash cannot render images from this or any advanced HTML such as tables.
The best option for you it seems, is to use a series of text files for your content, which flash can import. You will therefore have to make it so that images have to be replaced?
Anything more advanced that this will require you to write server-side script in order to make this possible for the client.

Hi. I understand exactly what you mean Court Jester. You wish to insert a live html document, such as a third party website or your clients' existing html pages in a window within your flash document. Ideally, this would be, as you say, an html window within flash which is an additional layer. This is not possible as far as i know. but...A simple, reasonable facimile way of doing this is this; Make your navigation in flash and graphics frames in flash and place those elements into a multiframe page set in dreamweaver. In one frame put your navigation interface flash movie. using 'get url' in flash and pointing the 'geturl' command to your content frame you can achieve a simple and workable solution. I realize that this is not exaclty what you want but it works and your client will be able to edit/update their own docs. You can also hire a programer who is versed in php, lasso or whatever you need. This is not very expensive if your needs are fairly simple. Pass this cost on to your client of course and it's quite fair to make a bit of a profit/markup on these services.

For an example of this simple technique, go to

Well, it's not quite the answer he wanted, because it isn't possible, but it's the next best thing!

Thanks garden and welcome.

yeah.. Not 100% the answer im looking for.. Mainly cause of the use of Framesets. After becoming a Webforumz member I have honestly grown to hate frames. But that does seem like the only way to go. Thanks for the suggestion!

hey everyone, I just happen to be browsing the internet to find the same answer, I want to open a htm in flash also. What I've found out is that it is possible, by using a program called Flash Studio Pro v2. Flash can not do it by it self, but using this program you will be able to, what flash studio does is it makes flash run like a regular exec program, not just a projector. You have to write an actionscript using the fscommand, and then make an extension in flash studio pro to complete this command. Its some what complicated, but right now I trying to find the answer to that. If you want to see it for yourself that it is possible, search phoebus_browser in flashkit.com, hope this gets you a step closer.
