Assigning "names" to dynamically created Sprites

So I have some Sprites that I've created and placed into a containing sprite using actionscript. I then created an event listener for one of these sprites, and made a function to trace the event.target.name.

Problem is, it's returning (instance9) rather than the variable name "point1". Can anybody please shed some light on this? thank you!
