Pay for and Download video
Does anyone have a good idea on how I should do this?
My client has a video that he wants to put online and sell. People must pay first then they can proceed to download the video... Thanks |

Re: Pay for and Download video
Isn't this just like an eDownload or something?
Like, throw a preview up there, proceed to buying, the link for full download is in an email. |

Re: Pay for and Download video
Yes that's what I'm looking for? Got any ideas?
I did search google, and found one or two options but I didn't know if anyone had experience and could lead me to a good option. |

Re: Pay for and Download video
You could do it so that when someone pays and the payment is accepted they are added to a specific member group. Only people who are part of this member group have permission to access the file.
A lot of CMSs have features similar to this but I'm only familiar with Expression Engine though I know you can do this with Joomla. Don't know quite how though they have a great community who are always willing to help. I think you'll need a CMS of some kind, even if it's just very simple. Pete. |

Or are you already using one and need to add extra functionality?

Re: Pay for and Download video
I do not have a cms and was very much hoping I wouldn't have to go that route. There are digital/video hosting sites that you pay a monthly fee to host a video. Anyone that wants to download the video must pay and then immediately go to the download.
Doubtful the addition of cms is going to be in the client's budget so that may deter him from proceeding with this whole idea. I highly doubt he's going to pay a monthly fee on an edigital type host either. Any other ideas? |

Re: Pay for and Download video
He could do it manually. Some one pays via whatever and an email is sent to your client then the client could send a link to the customer where the video can be downloaded or an email with the video attached. The problem with the link is that it could be passed around if it wasn't a temporary one but that's more complicated and I have no idea how it's done. And if it is at all successful, the manual method would be too much work really.
Some kind of permission based system is the only way for it to be secure really, I encourage use of a third party site like you suggested or not bothering at all. Is it just for a single video or are there a few to choose from? If it's just one then i don't really see the point. Pete. |

Re: Pay for and Download video
It's one video of 4-5 minutes which he wants to sell for $1.99. So as you can see it's probably not something he's going to want to invest in nor is he going to be excited about spending a monthly fee for hosting on a third party digital site.
Thanks for mulling this over with me. |
