Newcomer needs help with .fla buttons

I'm Nick a complete newcomer from the UK, I'm running CS3 on Apple OSX.

My web designer is away in Tibet and I need to make urgent change to my website www.calderoriginals.com.

On the English language version the guitar button allows users to choose between electric and classical guitar cases. I want to copy this button to the foreign language site (which currently only have a button for classical cases.

I've tried deleting the simple button from the foreign language version and copying and paste the button from the English version. This puts the new button in the library but the button appears in the wrong place and is does not function.

I'd be hugely grateful if any of you can help me with this. Please bear in mind that I have zero knowledge of Flash.

Thanks

Well, this could prove to be difficult to explain over text, but I will do my best.

First thing...

In the .fla file for the english version, the button....select the button and press "f9" which brings up the actions panel...is there any code in there?

Thanks for offering to help. Select guitar button in library hit Action and this generates message "Current selection cannot have action applied to it"

Ok, the reason copy and paste doesn't work is because most likely - there is an actions layer above the button on the timeline with code on it.

You need to noy only copy the object, but also the actions layer for that frame for it to work.

Ok I don't understand what you mean - sorry to be so ignorant but can you expand a little so I might try to follow up your idea?

Re: Newcomer needs help with .fla buttons

You can use layers in flash...best practices when designing flash web sites to to use layers for the different peices...

One of the layers is hopefully(should) be called Actions. On there is where all of the interactivity is coded and created.

Now, I am just guessing - flash isn't a linear thing and there are 50 ways to do the same thing. But if they are a good developer that is how it should be structured.

So, on the flash timeline do you see a layer called Actions? If so, what is on it?

Re: Newcomer needs help with .fla buttons

Now I don't know where to find the Flash Timeline and I can't see anything called Actions. So can you give me any directions?

I did look at the German version and when I selected the Guitar button and did f9 for actions this code came up

_global.gotoPage = function (pagename)
{
_global.nextpage = pagename;
_root.play();
}

_root.lang = "de";

I wonder if this helps you help me at all?

I am grateful for your taking time on this.

Re: Newcomer needs help with .fla buttons

Sorry - I did a bit of research and found the timeline and found out what layers are and can tell you there is not an Actions layer.

The layers showing on the English version are

frame bg
skip button
content
