I don't even know where to start
Ok so I'm rubbish at flash, simple. But I'm quite taken by it and have certainly come around a bit. Now I'm working on my new portfolio site and want a subtle but impressive bit of flash in there.
This is what I want to do. I have the text of my logo and on the ends sits a beautiful butterfly. I am modeling the butterfly and creating the animation outside of flash. The idea is that when ever your mouse cursor gets too close to the butterfly it flies off. I want this to be natural so the butterfly would fly off in the opposite direction to that which your cursor was coming from and wouldn't be able to fly down towards the text though past it (ie in front or behind it) in either direction would be fine. The butterfly would come back after about 5 or ten seconds. I assume I use some clever bit of AS which would call the animation and apply it in some way. I am not totally set on the idea but if its subtle enough it could be a nice little design element that doesn't detract from anything. I'm going to town with the actual butterfly so I want the whole thing to look top notch too. If I can't get it right I won't be using it. No shoddy flash on my site. My question is, where do I start? What sort of techinques will I be using and where can I learn how to use them? Thankyou, Pete. |

Re: I don't even know where to start
Good thing for you I did something like this a long time ago...
Check this out to get started... http://www.senocular.com/flash/source.php?id=0.94 Then it should be as simple as adding a time delay in you AS that will reset the butterfly to a certain point on the screen. Let's work through that once you've tried the above bit of code... You can even expand what you see there, to ease in, ease out for a more fluid movement. Cheers, Scott
