Intensive Flash Training required

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to set up a modelling website for a friend - until now I have worked on about 10 different designs, and each time I have almost finished one she decides she wants something different ...

Now she wants me to set it up as a Flash site - I have never used Flash before and after looking at a template which I downloaded from templatehelp.com, it seemed like an almost impossible task to learn in the short period of time which I have. I mentioned it to her and was told that there is no such thing as 'impossible' and that it is only the mind that sets any limitations (she herself is a very successful person and has this attitude from years of studyig NLP...).

I am not sure what to do. If I try to convince her what a difficult task this is, it seems as if I am running against a brick wall, so I have decided to give it a go. The thing I am not sure about is how to tackle the problem - are there any tutorials that help me learn the skills I need really quickly (generally I am very good at learning and I normally work about 16-17 hours each day) - or are there templates which are easier to understand and handle than the one which I downloaded, and which are still of a high quality?

Any input on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Jenny

Templates are their own beasts in themselves sometimes...

Look at the sticky at the top of the forum for resources for learning flash.

Or, you can google for stuff like: Motion and Shape Tweening, Editing Movie Clips, Keyframe animation in Flash, Actionscript Basics...

Flash has a pretty big learning curve, but once you understand the structure and flow, you'll be a pro in no time.

Cheers,

Scott

Re: Intensive Flash Training required

Thanks, Scott. I'll check the resources.

Yes, the template is an absolute monster with dozens of layers etc. and it doesn;t seem like anything that I as a beginner can handle. BesidesI've always found it difficult to understand any work that I haven't designed myself from scratch - I used to work as DBA for Dell and encountered the same problem having to tidy up other people's mess...)

My friend has decided to stick with HTML/CSS for the time being (and I've used the Dynamic Drive Thumbnail Viewer for the gallery). As I have a strong interest in design I do like the idea though of being able to spruce things up with some flash - I'm totally fascinated by what is possible nowadays.

I'll let you know once the site is finished so I can get some constructive criticism.

Cheers,

Jenny
