Black Screen of DOOM

Elton Roe Architect website.

This happened last night. I was working on some new pages for the site, and uploaded them. I go to check on the website, how it loads and such, and it begins to load up, then BLACK SCREEN! This had never happened before.

I was thinking that it was due to a movie I had it load. The movie stage was a width of 700, and the images were about 1200 wide. I didn't think this would pose a problem, as it published and previewed fine.

I spend the time to shrink the images to the stage size, but still I get the BLACK SCREEN.

I called my browser to load up the HTML on my save folder, and the page loads fine, the movie loads fine. Works flawlessly.

I upload the SWF, HTML and the javascript (to make sure everything it needs is freshly uploaded), and still it gets a black screen.

Is this due to a corruption when uploading? Do I need to contact Yahoo Business pages? Is it something that I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GW

Re: Black Screen of DOOM

Try running it with normal object and embed tags and not use the JS version to see if that changes anything?

I have encountered issues with the AC JS stuff not working properly.

What happens when you upload it with the standard embed tags?

Give that a try.

Re: Black Screen of DOOM

I'll have to try that. But I'm not sure if that would make a difference. Even if you call the actual SWF file from the net, it will not play.

http://eltonroearchitect.com/flash/ELR.swf

This should bypass all embed tags as well as the JS file.

Ok, I'll probably have to see the .fla to be much help on this one. If you want to upload it, or send me a PM and I'll give you my email address.

Re: Black Screen of DOOM

Well, I have narrowed it down. It's happening when I load a movie. I remove

loadMovie("vignette.swf", "loader");

from the frame, and it loads up fine form the net. but if I add that line in, it blacks out.

The movie itself is fine, as you can acccess it fine from the web. It's at
http://eltonroearchitect.com/flash/vignette.swf.

I just can't have that line on the frame, although I use that line to bring up 30+ SWF files later on in the site. And they work fine.

Is there another easier way to load this up using a different script, perhaps, or can anyone know what the problem is?

Many thanks

GW

Hmm, that is strange...

I'd need to see how it is coded, there could be something you are missing but it is hard to say since this can actually be accomplished a few different ways.

Re: Black Screen of DOOM

Hopefully you can see what error the code is causing. I am drawing a complete blank. I'm using very little AS code, and it was working fine before.

Re: Black Screen of DOOM

Grrr. it's now working. I don't know what went wrong, OR what I did to change it. Part of me thinks it's on the server side, since everythig on my end was working fine.

Thanks for your help, Sgaspar11.

And as per your request, I downloaded a tutorial for AS3 called Actionscript 3 Basics through CartoonSmart.com. Hopefully this will give me a leg up on streamlining the site I have now and making it more professional.
