Rollover or Flash Screen

I originally posted this under the graphics topic but I think it belongs here instead.

I have an opening page that has a blueprint/map on it. I want to be able to have it so that a person can roll their mouse over the different names and have a small graphic pop up. When I tried to make the rollover as a button, the roll over image is limited to the size of the button. I don't want to use the clik of the button since that will take the person to that page.

Is there a way to have a roll over where the image is larger than the button? Since this is my opening page, is it better to make this a flash screen? Do I have other options in making this happen? In my message under graphics, I attached my home page and one of the images for one of the roll overs.

Thanks,
Geeky Girl

Thumbs up Re: Rollover or Flash Screen

Not too often do I recommend using Flash...I see it misuesed so much that it really kinda turned me down (not off) on it.

This, however seems to me like the possibility to make a very nice flash application that would in actuality be beneficial to the site. If you do, let me know how it turns out!

Re: Rollover or Flash Screen

I was trying to stay away from Flash screens because they are so annoying to me but then I came up with this idea and want to make it work. I am a newbie to creating websites so a flash screen seems a little daunting to me.

I am always up to a new challenge so a flash screen will only add to my geekiness!

Flash MX for Dummies was good for me when I first started dabbling in the world of Flash. Then I picked up an older book called Foundation Actionscript that also gave me a lot to work with.

Reading is always my first suggestion!!

Re: Rollover or Flash Screen

Another way to get away without using flash to do a rollover and do a popup image can be done with CSS on hover display show.

You can see an example at www.beach-cruise.com... those were tables with images feed in from other sites. of course if you wanted to do with Javascript, you could do that as well, but not as kewl as nice clean CSS

You have EXACTLY what I want! Can you tell me more about how you set it up?
