Flash or ASP .Net
I am making an online application that will input a report from users and then send it in xml format to a component that will decode it and add it to the database.
What I need to know is the best application for using for the front end. I would like to present a case to my boss as to why we should choose Flash to program the front end which means comparing it with ASP .Net. Seeing as I am not an expert in either Flash or ASP .Net I am not in a position to give the advantages or disadvantages of either application. Is anyone out there able to and prepared to let me know how the two technologies compare and why one is superior over the other one. I would be interested to know issues like the learning curve for both technologies, security, performance and anything else that you think relevant. I would be most grateful for advice. Many thanks, PollyAnna |

I think some HTML and ASP.NET would be all you needed in this case, i think flash would simply get in the way. Is it simply a form you need that converts what it captures into XML?

The web form would consist firstly of a log in form and then the main form which would get info from the db - say list all the Advice Requests in a list view. The user would then select an Advice Request from the top lst view and all its details would be displayed below together with say a text area where he could type in his Advice Response.
So, we would need security control for the log in, db access in order to display the information for the main form, and gui controls for displaying the information. I thought Flash could do this using a thin client and without the need for refreshes. Also, at what stage would the web form become complex enough to warrant using Flash. What would I be looking for when deciding which application to use? What can Flash do that ASP cannot do, or does not do so well? Thank you for your advice. Kind regards, PollyAnna |
