Getting Flash to run across page changes

To arms my fellow designers!

I have a client who would love to have an inline Flash MP3 player. I've got the player made up and he's content with the look and feel and the operation, but now alas there is a problem.

He would "LOVE" to have the player persist across page changes, so that the sound doesn't "GLITCH" out; he wants it to continue playing the song across a page change.

Short of making the entire page flash based [no-no] or using frames [have to rewrite entire CMS software included in this project] to target the correct frame, I am at a loss here...

He will not listen to reason on having in another window, like a pop-up window. If there is any suggestions I will give you my first born child, several pounds of curry, a mexican hat with a clove in it, several unknown gems, and a muskett that was used to kill three hundred german war soldiers, and the grandeous thanks you should ever recieve on a public forum.

Thanks, anyone, in advance for your aide or support!

You *could* use Flash cookie to record the place in the track when a link is clicked (assuming the links are in the same Flash file, otherwise you'll need to record the place every second or something?). Then when the file reloads, it checks the Flash cookie and starts playing from where it left off.

However, this will still mean that the music will stop when a link is clicked and not begin until the flash reloads... there's no way around that other than the alternatives you mentioned.

Ya, I thought there wouldn't be a solution to _that_ problem. Oh well, you win some and you loose some.

I've decided to go about and make a frame based system. I was thinking that the majority of the biggest browsers do support frames, and I could always right in a directive that would allow the detection of your browser and switch to a popup player if your browser doesn't support frames.

However, my understanding is that if your browser can support Flash, then it should quite definately support frames.

Oh, how I miss the browser wars!
