Using a small animation (.mov file) as a preloader

I'm not so hot on the old flash side of things but a normal preloader (i.e. a timline bar) is not an issue but this particular issue os bugging me :P

I have a main animation which I have need a preloader for, but my preloader is an imported mov file (imported and converted to a movie clip) but i can;t figure out how to get the preloader clip to play in time with the loading. I'm assuming its gonna be based on something like the following, but like i said, my actionscripting sucks:

[main movie size]/[frames in preloader clip] = [main movie amount loaded per frame of the preloader clip]

so, [main movie loaded so far]/[main movie size] = [main movie load %] should determine what percantage into the preloader clip the viewer should currently be looking at.

I think I under the very basic principles of what i'm trying to acheive here but I just need some help with the expression for this, if at all possible?

Thanks in advance for looking. Any help'd be great.

F

Re: Using a small animation (.mov file) as a preloader

I think i'm getting it sorted - i just wasn;t thinking laterally and working out how to adopt what I knew.

Well, here's a wip. I'll keep on at it - looks like i'm going to have to render out the animations as image files, because as imported mov's the white is not white :/

The preloader skips on mine, it just plays the main anim, so here's the fla if yah really want to see.

I've got it sussed. The animation looks clearer (i.e. the white is white now) and the preloader is actually timed properly.

Perhaps sometimes it helps just to type out what your problem is - it helps you understand it if you can describe what it is. Final version

Any feed back would be cool.

Not bad at all, is all of that vector art? Also seems like some of your animation is going off the stage...what's that all about...but other then that...seems very professional...nice job!!

Thanks Jacob. No, no vector art. This is a realflow fluid simulation rendered in c4d. Yeah, some of the action is occuring just outside of view, hence the moving camera position - in an attempt to have the relevant action occuring in shot and as close as possible. I do have a version where the camera is positioned all the way through as it is at the very end, but i thought it looked not quite so interesting.
