Flash or Director?

Most of yall have seen me in just about all of the other boards. I am a beginner and I am trying to learn everything. If I was going to make a purely flash done site (The whole site isn't going to be flash just a subsite in it) then should I use Director, or Flash. The reason I am asking is I heard somewhere that Director files are smaller and easier to load, where Flash files are much larger. If I am wrong about that, than please let me know. Thanks again.

Flash is for internet content and is very good at it. Quite frankly I would be surprised if a flash file was larger than a director file but hey...

Director is for making offline presentations, executables and interactive media content - Like an interactive CD-ROM and as such it is much more heavy duty. It is far more difficult to understand and requires a more programmer-like approach than flash which, quite frankly, can be used on a very basic animation through timeline level.

You should not be using director for online content.

Perhaps you are mistaking Director with Shockwave? It is true shockwave is created from director, but it is web only and far more specific yet again!! Shockwave could well create smaller files. It is more programming orientated again and often used for games and other interactive content and not just animation unless it requires 3d acceleration which flash cannot provide. While Shockwave is far more powerful than flash, you will find that not only is it more difficult to use, the plug-in for shockwave is quite large and this puts most shockwave content out of reach of dial up modem users.

No problem, glad I could help. I don't know a huge amount about director myself, just what it's used for really. I've played around with it a little but really don't want to learn it because I don't think I'll use it. Flash will develop over the years and probably end up similiar
