Question Joomla

I don't know which topic to post this in, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I have my first webpage up ( http://www.dhreport.com ) -- it's essentially a newspaper, with a lot of daily content change.

Has anyone ever tried, or know anything about, Joomla! or any other CMS? I'm not trying to set the world on fire here, but I'm a noob and if it will save me time over hand-entering text in the code every day -- well, it's free .

Re: Joomla

Joomla is a great program, my partner has made 3 sites with it.
I dont know a lot about it, and its very complicated to start working with straight away, but when you have learnt it, its sooooo easy to use and update websites.
www.prestonconservatives.com was made with Joomla, and as you can see it follows the general Joomla look.
It is wasy to configure and modify through CSS, which is what I do on the sites.
Prob take you a couple of weeks to get used to it, but best way is trial and error!
Hope this is helpful

Craig

Re: Joomla

Very helpful. I like the way it displays the the text when you hit a headline, it's just soooo much better than sending the reader to a new page.

Sorry to hear it has a learning curve LOL, I'm busy as hell just trying to get my first website up and running.

Re: Joomla

Hello masonbarge, i do have some experience with Joomla,
I faced many problems while installing extensions(modules) in joomla.

So i am providing you a few links that may help you
Installing Joomla Extensions
here are the links to the manuals.
Joomla End user Guide

http://www.scotweb.com/
and here is a cool forum post with useful information Link to Joomla forum post

So I actually tried installing it on my home server today again.
Added a couple of modules that I thought would be great for a site that I currently building a CMS for,
and ........ nothing works properly, dangnabit!

So many undefined warnings and calls to objects that don't exist. F*cking thing.

The core components seem to be pretty nice however, and the installation was very easy... seems to have moved on a bit though with the licensing. Ir appears that a lot of the add-ons and templates are commercially licensed now....

Will persevere. This wasn't a cry for help BTW, more of an observation having played around with this for a couple of hours.

Re: Joomla

I think moderators can move this thread to php forums as Joomla is based on Open GPL PHP and MySQL so it is not suitable in Other databases forums.

Thanks

Re: Joomla

Yeah absolutely and the plus point is you get free QA experts around the world who do criticism for free and point out all the bugs and helps a product grow much more faster and better.

I love Open GPL based products.

Re: Joomla

i have made a site with joomla not very Hard its a very basic one

http://www.3d-modelling-art-online.com

its a site for my footie team i play for in London

also if you need any help with ti just tell me cause if anyone gets stuck on something where when they try and save something in joomla or make a new content or something and cant save it cause a javascript error then check this

go to your cpanel and edit the

Configuratiopn.php file and you see the lines

$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://www.3d-modelling-art-online.com';
$mosConfig_sitename = 'Site Name';

make sure the site name is $mosConfig_sitename = 'Site Name'; has a site name not a web address.

also make sure $mosConfig_live_site = 'http://www.3d-modelling-art-online.com'; Live site has http://www.yoursite.com not "http://yoursite.com"

cause it recognises your site is on "http://yoursite.com" which most peoples sites are on "http://www.yoursite.com"

Hope this helps someone in the long run cause i had the same problem

also if you need some help with Joomla ask and i might be able to help as i know bout it a little bit also if your a beginner at this then go to this page

http://www.screenbooks.net you have to register first its free then after you register login and click the Library tab, then go down until you see Joomla 1.0x and click it theres tutorials there which will help almost anyone

Thanks
Aaron

P.S if need any help dont hesitate to Ask on here or PM me
