web based apparel merchandising system

Hi!

I came up with an idea of implementing a web based system for apparel merchandising sector as the final project for my IT degree. But the problem is that the merchandising field consists of lot of scope & variety that would make the system hard to manage & implement. I need an idea to reduce the scope of it.
According to my recent researches regarding this field, apparel merchandising consists of Market research, forecasting & budgeting, sourcing of material(fabrics, trimming & other material), Placing orders with factories & following up on the manufacturing process and delivery of goods, Advertising, promoting to buyers & also contributes in other sales activities.
Therefore as you can see, it covers a lot of processes. My idea is to at least, provide an innovative web based solution to facilitate even one process of merchandising.

As merchandisers do travel across countries to research on emerging fashion trends & as they also have to keep track of the orders and their current status of production time to time: this situation can be identified as a problem area which I can provide a solution with. Another idea is to develop a decision support system to aid the merchandising process. But I feel that it would be much complicated because of rapidly changing consumer demands in the field.

But the idea's I've come up with so far, has a very dynamic & large scope. My aim is to develop a complete web based system with a clear scope. I really want to do something unique & useful.
Ive been searching for a good idea for almost 2 weeks......but couldn't find a satisfying solution. As I am supposed to hand over my project proposal next month, I'm kinda running out of time as well.

So, please be kind enough to help me out with some ideas !!....I surely can do with some professional guidance regarding this matter.....
