SSl and e-commerce

Do i need to purchase SSl before i purchase start my e-commerce, assuming that i need both to accept secure payments? thanks. Plus, any tutorials on this?

Don't necessarily need SSL to accept payments. Cheaper and safer to outsource to a third-party Like WorldPay to handle the payments.

If you're going to integrate with PayPal, which I'm guess is the plan - then you don't need SSL, it's handled by them.

SSL is used for security. If you need security and want to give your customers a peace of mind ( esp. when its a large sum of money ), SSL should be the way. If its just small sums of money, an ASCII / plain text transfer should be alright.

thanks for all the help. so far it is just small sums of money, so i guess i can wait on the ssl.saves me money.thanks, btw, what is worldpay?

It would be fairly challenging to make a strong, usable, SECURE shopping cart. There are free ones available, but as always they require services such as SSI and other features to tie in to make payments that cost you. So if you don't have the money to buy a shopping cart script I doubt you have the money to buy the hosting required to run your own. There are shopping cart services provided by many hosts (including scripts) that are comercially produced and should suit you better.

well my e-commerce wizard, which has a shopping cart is enabled from my http://www.webhost4life.comweb host but i was saying that im having trouble using it. i can't figure out how to even link it to my page, plus every time i try to do anything from it, i get an 404 not found page. its very frustrating
