Ranking System Development for site

I was wondering if it would be possible to design a ranking system. I'm currently in the works of designing a website for a game that has wifi. I was wondering if I could make it so I can rank players without me manually having to have to change it.

you can do this with php. I'm only starting to learn, so can't be of much help, but you can look at this tutorial to start with, and hopefully someone else will be able to put some more meat around these bones.
