Best forum -> news script/forum?

I am making a website for my friend, just for fun, and what I want is a forum for his website (phpBB, vBulletin, etc) and then on the front page of the site (not part of the forum) a news section that extracts topics from a certain area of the forum. I have already found a lot of scripts like this, but none have the avatar of the poster displayed! I have tried many forums and none have this.

If anyone could recommend one it would be great!

Vbulletin has plugins for that

You can do that with any forum. It's just a case of dragging title and maybe a summary from the database and then dumping them on the home page. Though it's easier said than done.

Can you recommend a plugin? I have looked high and low. I actually have one that is really useful, but it doesn't display the avatar of the poster. I also tried manually editing the plugin but I have found it really difficult...
