Content management

Hi all

I need some sort of system whereby I can update certain parts of my site(s) on a regular (weekly) basis eg upcoming events, local news etc. also to manage a fairly large selection of photographs and a user login section.

I know how to do some it using Dreamweaver but I would prefer not to use it if possible.

I have CGI, PHP and MySQL available with my hosting package but absolutely no idea how to use them.
Could some help me or point me in the direction of easy to understand documents. (or both)

Mike

Re: Content management

If you want to build this, you need to learn php and mysql. (I really wouldn't bother with cgi.) It's a major commitment. A good introductory PHP self-teach book is Larry Ullman's "PHP and mysql for dynamic websites">

Actually, if you can make it through Ullman's and actually learn the material, you'll be able to do what you want.

The other option is a cms system like Joomla.

Re: Content management

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Is there anything suitable "online" or downloadable for an absolute beginner at least to start with?

Re: Content management

If you need something online ASAP, a Content Management System maybe right up your street... They are free to use, so trying one wouldn't hurt.. I have only ever tried Jamoola but I was impressed by the overall simplicity of it. Heres some links that may be of assistance: -
