Question front page 2003 and psd files

I need some real help. I decided to use templates. I have paint shop and adobe photo editors. Yes I use Frontpage 2003. I cannot afford Dreamweaver yet.

When I edit my layers with my company name, they do not show up when I go back into my html page. Every time I open the psd file on my site it prompts me directly to the editor again.

How do I get the edited psd template to show up in my index page.

Best Regards,
FayGirl

Re: front page 2003 and psd files

.psd files are the photoshop save file type, they support layers, text etc. This format isn't intended for use on the internet.

Once the template is made you need to save the psd, then go to file >save as > save for web. Then save it in either a jpeg or gif format. Further more you would need to slice up your layout so you can actually apply html to this.

Now if your problem is that you can't see changes on your psd file then check the order of your layers. Your text needs to be above the background.

If you are changing the psd but your site isn't changing then you need to save your files as jpeg/gif and save these files to your images folder on your web server. If you don't overwrite your current images it will just display your old images.

I hope this helps, if i have misunderstood the problem please post again and clear things up

Re: front page 2003 and psd files

Thank you that helped a lot.

In addition, ....is slicing the same as layers?

And would you have to delete the original layer on a template , then save the replaced image in a jpeg or gif file in my web image folder?

Before I purchase adobe 5.0 element? I am on the 30 day trail. Is that the best one for A NEWBIE?

Now this software does not support slices.

I am going to get this concept. It is almost sinking in.

LASTLY, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY TEMPLATE VIDEO TUTORIALS.

Thank You Kindly,
Faygirl

Slicing is the process of cutting the template image into smaller parts. For example you would have individual images for buttons, background etc. You would then save these slices to an image folder and piece them together with html and css.

Heres a tutorial on slicing.

I have photoshop CS2, for a noobie you just want something that can get the job done, photoshop elements is good, also there is painshoppro 10 out which is supposed to be pretty good and its <£100 i believe. Photoshop is good for professionals and people who are into photography. If you don't plan to take it so seriously i am sure that you could more than get by with pain shop pro.

Before you get it though you would need to check if it can open .psd files. I would assume it could as photoshop can open paint shop pro files.
