help with formatting Access2000 date field

Hello
I am new to Access2000 and have a query. The date field is in yyyymmdd format which is fine. But I want to convert the date field to text field and keep the same format. Example 19470520 is in date field and I want it to be exactly the same after conversion.At the moment, when i try to convert the field changes back to 20/05/1947.
Please can someone help me, it is quite urgent.

Im not sure why you want to do that but here is the answer.

You need to go into design view in the table.
Click in the Date Field Name cell
click in the DATA TYPE cell and click on the black arrow
Select TEXT from the drop down list

Look in the Properies section, botom of screen
If there is an INPUT MASK remove it.

If you then get a box asking if you want to make changes to all data say yes or ok.

are you having problems with accessing the dates using asp quieries? if so you know you should use the # symbol.

like you would use the "' for text and plain " for numbers.
