Font Issues

Why do fonts look thinner on Windows and thicker on OS X, that is the case with my site. Should I be using ems instead of pixels?

Re: Font Issues

Have you enabled Cleartype? OS X has font smoothing etc on by default, windows does not.

Re: Font Issues

Font weight has nothing to do with font size. Ems will not solve the issue.

Re: Font Issues

Depends on the font though no? Like Verdana for example is a larger font than say Helvetica. So if you set 0.9 em on each verdana would be larger and perhaps appear thicker.

Re: Font Issues

You might want to look into the display attributes of the two operating systems to see what dpi the screen is set to display.

A larger dpi will make a given font size appear larger on screen.
