appearance discrepancies between IE & Firefox

hi there, i was wondering if you could help me with a little problem.
my webdesign skills are pretty sub-par, but normally, despite tons of coding errors and things, i'm pretty happy with what i manage to make.

however, the appearance of my pages tends to really vary depending on which web browser is used, which is a pain. in IE it looks fine, but in Firefox, my scrollbars have lost all their customisation and are horrible and intrusive looking. ... see here: http://pointykitty.co.uk

is there any way i could fix my coding to make them look as they do in IE?

also, is there any way i can use "&nbsp" in Firefox? you know, the little code that inserts spaces. with Firefox the page title displays "&nbsp" while in IE it doesn't.

You have two basic problems.

The code quality is, as you admit, poor and it is also none standards compliant.

The reason your scrollbars only look as you planned in IE is because you are using proprietary code that only IE understands.

Learn to code in a standards compliant way using xhtml, css, etc.

There are loads of online tutorials if you don't want to buy books.

IE is the only browser that supports scrollbar styling (Which is useless imo) as ukgeoff said. Simple fact is you can have close to but never have pixel percision. People use different browsers, screen resolutions, font sizes, etc.. And using IE only technologies is never good. Despite their market share (Which is decreasing) IE still remains the most substandard and non-compliant browser to date. Even though it is still the most popular and there is nothing "wrong" with scroll bar styling etc just accept that it won't work for every body.
