Tab Order
Question: One of our new web developers claims that on a web form, you should always put the tab orders/index on the label rather then the input field. Any thoughts on this? It doesn't sound logical to me.

Re: Tab Order
As long as your labels are properly associated, which they should be, with their respective input fields, using the 'for' attribute, then it shouldn't really make any difference, at least for a normal user. Where it might have an impact, and this is only an idea which someone might be able to be more authoritive on, is with people using assistive technology. The labels to the fields could be offered to the end user, who could then tab through them, with their access device announcing the field at which they had just arrived. |
