Alternatives to using frames

Hi - I know it's bad practice to use frames but are there any alternatives other than using Javascript/AJAX? I realise you can use CSS to replicate the appearance of frames, but i'm struggling to see how you can have links which will only refresh one part of the page.....

Re: Alternatives to using frames

You can use css to make parts of the page static on the screen, so when you scroll down the stay in the same position. When you click on a link i presume you will open a new page with the same thing. Sorry have never tried anything like this before myself

Re: Alternatives to using frames

thanks for the reply - the difficulty is in allowing a link to be clicked which will only refresh one part of the page. i've not been able to find any way of doing it without either using frames or AJAX. it's not essential but i was curious to see if there was anything else out there

I personally have not seen any other method of doing this.

I think Ajax is probably the only option

Yes ... I would think Ajax would be the only way of achieving this but ... why on earth does it matter!? Unless you have a million images on your site (which you shouldn't unless your have a photographers site, flickr or a royalty-free image site) then, reloading won't even be noticed.

Karinne's right. I thought the exact same thing when I read your post.

There are alternatives... but why bother?
