Re: CSS and older browsers (IE6 and under...gggrrrhh)
Sadly, IE6 follows no apparent logic. You learn more about its perversities each time it molests one of your web pages; and each time a part of you dies inside.
Try PIE for a comprehensive catalogue of IE bugs. |

Re: CSS and older browsers (IE6 and under...gggrrrhh)
Yes, it is depressing. My current project was horrifically mangled in IE6, and I nearly lost hope. Then I looked a little more carefully at hasLayout, and found it solved a lot of problems.
Pandering to IE6 is necessary only because it is popular. IE5 is not popular (about 1% share and dwindling), and therefore I urge you to cheerfully ignore it. Last edited by MikeHopley; Sep 28th, 2007 at 23:09. |

Re: CSS and older browsers (IE6 and under...gggrrrhh)
I just looked at my site in IE6 again, just out of curiosity and disbelief and like you said, a part of me died inside........good job i've had a couple beers tonight.
I am going to have look at that haslayout as I've only recently heard of it and don't know too much about it so I really need to get it sorted as there must be quite a few people who still use IE6. Is IE7 only available on XP and Vista? If people still use Win98 and Win2k they might not be able to get it. |

Re: CSS and older browsers (IE6 and under...gggrrrhh)
After a long time struggling with IE's 'rendering' of my CSS I have stumbled upon a simple and surefire way of solving all of your IE related CSS woes. I find that if, when you view your site in IE, you shut your eyes very tight and rock yourself gently all is well with the world and your CSS seems to work fine.
I think it'll catch on. Pete. |
