css opacity effect

Hi All,

I am considering re-doing my portfolio layout as its in tables and I want to convert it into tabless css.

I am thinking of doing a new design with somethink I have never tried before, I want to have the top 100-200 pixels to be a gradient overlay with an opacity effect so that the site comes through the top still, any idea's of how I would go about this?

Cheerz
