Re: stuck editing template

Using Firebug, it took quite a while to even see what you were trying to achieve (or rather find the relevant code). You have tables containing rows containing cells containing divs. Then you have divs containing tables containing rows containing cells containing divs... And everything is independently in-line styled. In addition to the in-line styling, you've got separate styling in the header. Far too much nesting going on.

Your whole site could have been achieved tableless and much leaner by just using CSS. However, for the footer, you could achieve what you want with just one cleared div containing your content, or two separate divs floated left and right. If you're unsure of what any of that means, come back.

I'll tell you this, you've got a good looking site. But time to get away from the tables.

Re: stuck editing template

There is nothing I want more than to shift from tables, believe me, it will help me sleep at night! I know its a simple structure with css and I have destroyed it.
What do I need to do at this stage to achieve it? Because I've ben working on the site and previewing with firefox and when I looked in IE it was ripped up.

Internet Explorer is acknowledged to be the fly in the ointment. Design and preview in FF and Opera, review in things like Safari etc., only then if appropriate, apply hacks to cater for !"£$%^&* Internet Explorer.

There are endless free tutorials about:

It may appear daunting, but a little research to get your head around some of the concepts will pay dividends, then you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

But the same axiom applies: the cleaner and simpler the site, the less bug fixes are required, the faster it loads, the longer you keep your visitors et al.

Hope that helps.

Re: stuck editing template

Thankyou, I guess I'll have to spend the first hot week in the UK locked indoors reading this. IS it a case of starting again on my site, or is it resolvable?

Re: stuck editing template

What you've got is resolvable if you only want to tidy up the footer as suggested. Then start again as means to switch from tables. Once you're happy, upload the new 21st century tableless site.

If you're not sure how to start on the footer, just shout (but I am about to slide into my hot French garden with a bottle of London Pride...)
