3 column layout help needed

I have just copied out a layout that was written in a book called "The CSS Anthology - 101 Essential Tips, Trick and Hacks"

When i viewed the page, the layout was messed right up.

I have double checked the code that I copied from the book and there is nothing different so I don't know why it's gone mad.

Can someone have a look at the layout and the code and see what has gone wrong?

I've included the html and css file

Adrock, go download the Firefox add-on called Web Developer Toolbar

You will only have to click a button on the toolbar to view anyone's css code!

You'll LUV IT!

Haha, you don't need Firefox to see css. Just click "view page" or "view source" or whatever, look in the header for the style links, and cut/paste it or them into your url bar. It's a rare page that hides css.

Yeah but you just got to clicky clicky with the toolbar. It's a great add-on. On my pc I use flock, but it's the same as firefox (just a little cooler). Shame there aren't more mac browsers. Ah well, one can only dream.

But download that toolbar, it might be useful.

Pete.

Eh? there are plenty mac browsers I can think of off the top of my head. And Flock is for OS X too. And the links provided are fully functional examples complete with CSS and XHTML Strict and already browser tested so pfffft.

Re: 3 column layout help needed

really?? I must be living in a cupboard then. I've just settled for safari and camino all my life, oh and opera. Hmmm...

Pete.

Edit: I remebered iCab as well and ie5 (if you can call that a browser) I've got them both. It's seems there are lots and I am simply an idiot. Anyway, I'm off to download flock, I didn't know there was a mac version. OmniWeb as well, there's another.

Re: 3 column layout help needed

A lot of them use the same rendering engine though don't they.

Firefox, flock, mozilla use the mzilla engine. And don't omniweb and safari use the same engine too.

Ah well, I've got loads now anyway. Which do you prefer?

Pete.

Re: 3 column layout help needed

Most of them use Webkit i.e. KHTML, the Zillas use Gecko, Opera has its own, and I think Netscape uses something a bit different from gecko as well. But because they use the same engine(s) does not mean that they support/display things the same way. I prefer Firefox to all of them including Safari, others prefer Camino because it is fast and small.. bleh.. Others live & die by Omniweb. Each one does things the others do not.

Like Mason said, just right-click in your browser and choose "View Source".

Re: 3 column layout help needed

To stray back off topic (sorry Karinne), I use Safari with Saft, Inquisitor, SafariSource and SafariStand. By itself, Safari is a mediocre browser... with those plugins, I won't switch to anything else.
