Gaps due to tables in Firefox

Hi,
I am currently working on a website where I have text which is supposed to appear on the page in columns. To position the text correctly I use tables. This works perfectly in IE, but in Firefox the gaps are very big between the heading and the start of the table.

I also used a table for the contact form and also here the gaps between each line are very big.

Please have a look at the site: http://www.oswebdesign.co.uk/tds

Are there any tricks using CSS to make this work in Firefox as well?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Gaps due to tables in Firefox

To be honest, if it works in IE but not in Firefox, your CSS isn't good. While IE is more lenient with errors, it will also cause problems when there shouldn't be anything wrong.

At any rate, you shouldn't be using a table for your navigation. You should be using an unordered list with text. Use CSS to hide the text and then apply a background image. That table needs to go ASAP!

Re: Gaps due to tables in Firefox

Thank you for your honest reply.

How can I find out where the problem is in my CSS which is causing the trouble with gaps in Firefox?

And since I am a newbie, why is not good to use a table for the navigation? This design has been given to me by a graphic designer and I cant think of a solution to place the text between the drops other then a table. I suppose I will need a complete different background image from the designer?

Thanks for your help in this matter

Re: Gaps due to tables in Firefox

There are several sites with information about using CSS to create accessible navigation. Unordered lists are commonly accepted to be the best method.

http://csszengarden.com/ has several examples and http://css.maxdesign.com.au/ has a few tutorials and examples.

Re: Gaps due to tables in Firefox

Both of you thank you very much. I got rid of the gaps and now understand where they came from

Will also look into the navigation and the links are great and very useful!!

Merry Christmas

Re: Gaps due to tables in Firefox

You should only use tables for tabular information. Using them for anything dealing with a site's layout or design is bad!
