Headline !!!! San Francisco Shakes

Ok, Wednesday, I was sitting in front of my computer reading posts and planning how to become Empress of All. My youngest cat, Ashurbanipal, was staring out the sliding door to our deck after finishing a sneezing contest with my sister's cats( colds in their noses).
Suddenly, there was a jolt, gentle shaking, another jolt, a third jolt, shaking (less gentle) and one final jolt. What was that?
An earthquake, 5.6. The joys of living by the San Andres Fault in San Franciso. This one, however, was on the Hayward fault across the Bay and the epicenter was down in San Jose.
No, I wasn't frightened, after your first one, you usually don't care. My cats, one wanted me to do it again and the other slept through it. (So much for animals can predict earthquakes.)
No major damage and no serious injury. In fact we discovered our house was bolted to the foundation. (Houses can slip off foundations if they are not bolted down. It happened in the Marina in 1989, our last big one.)
I will only admit to one silly move on my part during this adventure. I was seated in an armchair and grabbed onto the arms as the quake started. Don't ask me why...like that was going to save me.
The quake is over, everything has been reported and re-reported and probed and prodded and discussed and analyzed. The tourists have something to talk about when they get home and the residents wait for the next one. A little pressure was released and life goes on.

Just so you all know. We are still waiting for the Big One. They like to think they can predict from the little quakes....but it hasn't worked yet. Let me see...I have been through fire, hurricane, tornado, flood, blizzard, heatwave and earthquakes. I think I have had enough.

Wow, that's a lot of "natural" disasters you've been through! I've only experienced one big fire, two floods, at least five blizzards, and to top it all off, a hurricane (which, in my opinion, is the worst). Hope you're alright after all that...

That's what they tell you to do, but most people here don't bother unless the shaking lasts a little while. We probably shouldn't, but hey, you don't live forever.
