Apps every Mac based web dev should consider
Had a discussion today and the subject came up of what software packages are the most indispensable for the Mac based web developer. I use a lot of different applications throughout the day and I knocked it down to this list.
Coda : http://www.panic.com/coda
Coda is one of the slickest apps I have seen in a while for pumping out code. It has changed the way I work and has increased my productivity levels a bit. The complete integration of ftp, code, validation and terminal are excellent and a huge time saver.
Transmit : http://www.panic.com/transmit
Although Coda has integrated FTP, nothing beats having a solid FTP only client for whatever one may need. Transmit is one of the slickest I have used to date.
CocoaMySQL : http://cocoamysql.sourceforge.net/
If you use MySQL and have more than one site under your control, this little freebie is a gem. CocoaMySQL makes all the db management a snap. I prefer it to MySQLs Admin tools because its lighter and feels more natural to me.
Omni Outliner : http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/
Omni Outliner is one of those gets used for everything and anything applications. It is one of the most efficient apps I have seen for organizing site outlines/structure and doubles up as a To Do checklist.
Omni Graffle : http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnigraffle/
Much like Omni Outliner, Omni Graffle is good for lots and lots of things, but in this case it is a schweet flow charting/mind mapping app perfect for wire frames and outlining processes.
Textpander : http://www.smileonmymac.com/TextExpander/
Snippets, auto correct, auto just about anything. Textpander is a huge time saver and excellent addition to the developers toolbox, saving much time and helping to ease repetitive tasks like say restarting Apache.
I left out things like Quicksilver and Butler on purpose for this as they are a more universal enhancement although both are also suitable for developers especially with their clipboard history and slew of other nifty features.

I know where I am with TextWrangler, GIMP, Inkscape, and Terminal (ftp). I tend to prefer this way of working than using all-in-one apps, personal preference I'm sure, also I like to be in raw control of everything!
How many of those tools you mention are freeware / opensource? |

CocoaMySQL is the only freebie in this list. But there are plenty of good free ones as you know. TextWrangler is a seriously good piece of freeware.
there is always things like cyberduck and fireftp etc etc for free which are pretty close to say transmit and such, but of course the commercial apps tend to have a bit more of a polished feel to them. |
