Looking for a Laptop!

Posted Jan 29th, 2008 at 17:59 by Jack Franklin
I'm currently on the search for a laptop capable of running a few programs at once (EG: Dw, iTunes, Outlook & Ps) without much slowdown (I can take a little bit) and a price range of £300-£500 really. I've been looking on Dell.com, but if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

The one thing I love about DELL is their support. It really is good!

The ASUS X50 is certainly one of the best VFM I can recommend. I've bought a few in the past and they're all round good laptops. There is however one small glitch in that booting from standby, the CPU fan maxs out and stays maxed out :S I don't know whether a firmware upgrade would fix this as I never tried.

Also for some crazy reason, the HDD is shipped as FAT32. You can use the NTFS converter if you want (which I did) but some say it's not as good as a format (seemed fine though).

Otherwise, the Samsung P500 seems to offer a similar spec at an affordable price. The Toshiba Sat Pro A200 is slightly lower down the scale, and not for much less either, but I am an avid fan of Toshiba equipment.

So long as you stick to the Core 2 Duos with 1GB+, you'll be good to go. Plus stay away from Acer. That's just my experience though, I'm sure others may disagree.

On a side note, throw everything above out the window and get an ASUS EEE . Ok not the best for your requirements, but it's damn cool! (YouTube link)

I bought a HP laptop for £360.
1gb ram, 80gb hd, vista.
Not brilliant, but it was for my brother.
I'd recommend something like that for your price range

Hi

I Reccommend you try www.svp.co.uk or www.sterlingxs.co.uk. They sell 'Dell Outlet' machines at very good prices, nearly all with a 3yr Dell Next day warranty. I have a Dell outlet PC from Sterling and i am very pleased, there is no difference except price!!!
