ATTENTION: Work on the newest open directory/ search engine/ social network hybrid has begun.Any Questions?
This is the only blog where low-calcium is ok!
Welcome to the humble blog for Idiots, its almost like Web 2.1 for Dummies. EXCEPT its more blunt and half as much sodium.
I own various web-sites here and there and I'll be bloging about the extraneous task of making them from not-so-great to fantastic (in 3 easy years.) Enjoy!

Many have seen some of the newer websites or redesign of websites to be interesting. Do they really gather users?
Lets take a look at a general site make up. It usually consist of a design, a homepage (frontpage) and some internal pages that you want users to go to from the main page.
How is that accomplished, let us find out.
The Best Way to Get Users and "Stickiness:"
Of course this really based on your audience, and your companies goal. I hope this helps.
P. S. This is a whole lot better than that other post I did. Because this really will help all websites. It has even helped me! Feel free to discuss what works and what doesn't!
Lets take a look at a general site make up. It usually consist of a design, a homepage (frontpage) and some internal pages that you want users to go to from the main page.
How is that accomplished, let us find out.
The Best Way to Get Users and "Stickiness:"
- A friend of mine pointed out something that was lacking in the original design of one of my websites. An awesome factor. Something that would bring users to say "That was cool" and cause them to get interested in the site.
I think the best way to do that is to showcase something. Do something that will cause the user to instantly know what everything on this page is about. For instance id you take a look at the famous Google.com Homepage. You instantly know your going to be web searching.
Another way to get the coolness factor is having fun with your pages. For instance Google occasionally has special logos for different holidays. So whenever you look at there homepage. You'll say "That was cool" click on it and go into there site. Boom they got you. - A simple way to get the users to get on board to the site is displaying content from your site or community. Lets take this site for an example, it displays all of its features in the front page. It shows its users that the community is an important place to be on this site, it may also allow the community to feel welcomed to show up.
I got attracted to write blog entries, because of some of the interesting entries always written here. This type of front page increases "Stickiness" of the page but may not always be the best solution. - Something to avoid on the homepage is clutter-ness. Sometimes to much may cause your guests to not focus and loose interest with in the first 30 seconds. This is a problem with many websites in the blog world, or even some social networks over run there users with community content which causes them to loose interest and leave. What a tragedy.
- It also never hurts to have a video or some catch of excitement. Of course this isn't the best case scenario for all pages but it never hurts to give it try.
For instance many sites get the users attention by just attracting them to a simple swoosh of the buttons, or a page peel. Something so simple that will just say "Wow."
This usually works for pages that are selling an item that you mostly don't need stickiness but you need to sell the item as your first priority.
Of course this really based on your audience, and your companies goal. I hope this helps.
