Very noob, very noob...

First off I have never designed a web page. I am completely and total a noob.

I have recently have stared a new small home based business. Before I can get things off the ground I really must have a web site.

The business is a basically an irrigation design firm. The web site would be pretty simple, even if it were just one page, that would be fine with me. I'm just wanting to put general information, what the company in about, a bit of marketing blah blah, 3 to 5 pictures and contact information. I figure it would all fit on one page. Maybe a link or two here and there, but other than that pretty simple.

I am learning html and it is very easy so far to pick up, very easy, did I mention easy. My question is:

Is html a satisfactory language (what ever u you call it) to be learning, for what I am wanting to do? I ask the question because again I am a noob and I also realize that there are many languages out there. My research tells me the html is one of the easiest to learn. I have been using the crimson editor, a link that I found at this site.

Re: Very noob, very noob...

First off: welcome

I have no experience with Crimson, but if it's recommended here, it must be good
html is the mother of the internet-language. If the basic HTML is not enough you can use xHTML and CSS to expand to your needs. If you really want to get going you jump to PHP and a MySQL database (ASP sucks btw, because it's Microshit).
But for starters.. plain html will do

Re: Very noob, very noob...

In todays world of web designing, when starting off there are two things you really need to learn.

Firstly, all the content of the page, (paragraphs, headings etc) are done through HTML. If you are considering designing a site to todays standards you should not use HTML for things such as colors, aligning text, setting backgrounds.

This brings me onto CSS, Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS as they are know are a way to control the design, layout and appearance of all the pages on your site from one style sheet, (usually styles.css).

The use of CSS for style has become common place and is by far the most affective way to design your site.

For the needs of your site, i would get to grips with HTML, and then start learning CSS, (there is a link above), to design your site.

There are many other languages, but for your small 1/2 page site, these are not necessary

Hope this helps, please post any other questions you may have
