Is asp.net the best way to develop an e commerece site

Hi, i have been asked to design a website. the person also wants to sell goods online. I have just started learning asp.net but i am not sure if this is the best option for developing an e commerce site.
The website itself will be designed in dreamweaver. is it possible to integrate the asp.net into html or vise versa.
Thanks

ASP.net is certainly one of the most powerful languages around and is certainly very scalable.

Many people may tell you that it is easier / cheaper to go with php/mySQL but in myexperience the cost is difference in negligable for small to medium sites.

ASP.net has a lot of advantages over other languages in that it has so much built in support for things like multi data provider connectivity, caching, services, xml, theming and skinning, mobile, etc.

ASP.Net all the way!!!

Dump DW, slow, and generally poo. It dont like .net much either when things get heavy. I stopped using DW about a year ago when I kept getting parser errors and DW support was appauling (DW response 'It's because you are using foreign code') What!!! It dont support .Net like the box say it does? <rant over>

You're better off with the free visual web developer. DW support is only really partial. It's better suited to inline languages.

After years of use of Homesite (which I still use frequently) which I used alongside DW, I have now moved over to VS, which is fantastic. I wish I had bitten the bullet earlier!
