Help with Tags...
Hey, I need to know something. Is it better coding practice to make it where [ = < and ] = > instead of just using the carrot signs? Just wondering is all. I have had 0 problems with using the < and > so far.

Court Jester... webforumz was not spazzing out..... it was just the fact that you were not logged in.

I was very much logged in... It said I had a Private Message from you then it redirected me to the active Topics then It showed me as logged in. Then it took me to another page (without me clicking) then it redirected me again to the log-in screen. I thought Karl was messing with me cause his Screename was constantly pinging me VIA MSN Messenger. It finally stopped and I posted and was logged-out due to the craziness. And noticed it.

Don't let your users use HTML in posts unless you really have to. It's a playground for script-kiddies.

D3mon.... as far as I am aware, HTML has never been enabled on these forums with the exception of admins / moderators.

I know why this happened. Basically it was down to the modification I've made allowing un-registered users to post. The application variables needed had been set on one of our servers, but the other webserver was lacking these, there-fore causing a few weird happenings for anyone hitting our second webserver.
Anyway, all fixed.

And Rob, I'm glad it's fixed. It scared me.. I LOVE this place and the thought of losing it I just couldn't bare. I LOVE YOU MAN! |

why don't you use a real html editor?

This is for an online application that I am developing. It is one application that can do many things. Basically, if you need a counter, a chatroom, E-commerce, Message Boards, Computer Configurer, Image Gallery, or many other things (over 100 different things built in to 1) then you use my editor that comes with EVERY site that I host. So this way people can design the site that they want and they don't have to know much about the internet at all. FE- If you wanted to display your products you would type [Product's Name] and it will list the product right there with a link to a page where you can go to a more detailed page of the product itself. It's highly complicated in design, but so far my testers have loved the first few tests. (only 3 features are currently up and running without bugs so It's going to take me a while to develop).
That's why I am not using a real HTML editor, I want something that will fit my client's needs, not just something that I can give them to get them off my back . |

I'm working on sumthing very similar.....
I took the advice of someone on this site (probably catalyst) and I'm making some good progress with my CMS, but anyway.... I see what you're saying, but I meant sumthing like this: http://www.pinesandneedles.com/dnkde...ules/htmlArea/ that is surelly better than asking your clients to learn a simple coding language coz lets face it, people are stupid......

Yes but the editor I am using has way more features than that offers. In mine you build something via the editor. Let's say you want to build a photo album. You use the Photo Album builder to build it. Then you open up the page editor. You want to insert your photo album on that page. So you select the photo album you want then press insert. Then it automatically puts the code there for you. The code can be learned as well for the more advanced users, but I have already thought about the button pushers of webdesign. lol. Ohh, and I hate that editor up above. I had nothing but problems with it and 2 of my clients. They didn't understand how to use it. So I'm going even simpler than that even.

that's fair enough.....
but don't forget you can integrate this editor (the one on my site) with your own application so <u>you can</u> add your own buttons and stuff..... there are loads of them out there and I still think yur clients would rather use somethng that is similar to word than learn little code tricks....... but whatever works!
