Using ASP to write UpToTheMinute......
Hey, I was wondering how I could use ASP to actually take information off of another site's website. How can I go about doing this? I am in the process of making a new website and I want it to share a log-in with my current website. Is this even possible?

You can use the XML2HTTP component to "screen scrape" information, or if you want to share a login, make the login form from siteA submit to the main site (which has the database), this can then check if the user is valid and send them back to siteA.

surely just duplicating the pages / database on the other site would be a lot easier.

I've found a good tutorial from 4guysfromrolla...
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/110100-1.shtml It's using Microsoft's XMLHTTP which should be installed into your server, if you fancy pulling out the raw HTML and cleaning it up by string handling. You could pull RSS news feeds out using the same method and you wouldnt have to play around to cleaning things up either. |
